artist brief:

22 ca. 21A Piece was a live installation performance designed by Kevin Hanley and Anja Medved for the show “An Evening in the Distribution of Surplus Energy” arranged by Kevin Hanley, Anja Medved, Kieth Pirlot and Jan Tumlir for Food House gallery Los Angeles. For 22 ca. 21A Piece, a microphone element was placed on a metal shooting target. The said microphone element was connected to digital delay effects and amplification. The shooter (Anja Medved) was given a cue to shoot by the running of a slide projector which would provide an on and off spotlight to illuminate the said target in a mechanical rhythm determined by the carousel mechanism of the slide projector. The effected audio residual from the sequence of the projectors movements and the bullet impacts became a presence of sound with various complexities of pitch, tone, phasing, and modulation (audio effects operated by Kevin Hanley).
